Thank you for supporting Raise Some L 2020! You can still make a gift to the University of Louisville by clicking here.

The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to improve life in the Commonwealth and particularly in the greater Louisville urban area, creating knowledge through its research, sharing knowledge through its teaching, and guiding all its students to realize their potential.

A metropolitan college is a microcosm of the city it serves, and our city is not only experiencing the impacts of a global pandemic, but it is also the epicenter of the battle for racial justice that is being waged across America. With the wrongful death of Breonna Taylor and the ongoing protests, it has become abundantly clear to many for whom it hadn’t been previously, that the system is rigged against Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, specifically Black communities.

This year, we are “Raising Some L” for social justice. The Oxford English Dictionary defines social justice broadly as “justice at the level of a society or state as regards to the possession of wealth, commodities, opportunities, and privileges” (Social justice, 2016). The College of Arts & Sciences has long been home to many programs and initiatives that make social justice their focus. So let’s “Raise Some L” and move the needle toward a better society for all.

Here are some of our social justice-focused programs that you might consider supporting with a gift:

  • Social Change Minor Degree Program
  • Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research
  • African American Theatre Program
  • Malcolm X Debate Program
  • CONECT Peer Mentoring Program
  • Pan-African Studies, Department of
  • Martin Luther King Scholars Fund

Additionally, we know that an excellent education in the liberal arts and sciences is the best preparation for life and work in a world of increasing diversity and ever-accelerating change. Our graduates are the best equipped to for today’s world because they are informed and critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, confident communicators, and understand the importance of civic engagement.

Please consider supporting any A&S department, program, or initiative during UofL's Day of Giving.
