The Midwest Clinic is the most prestigious international instrumental music conference in the US.
The clinic hosts 18,000+ attendees over 3 days – this is the 75th anniversary year of the clinic. The UofL Symphony Orchestra is the first and only student ensemble in the history of the university to be invited.
The collaboration between the USO/AAHMI/ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic is approximately 12 years in the making. The collaboration is timely with regard to diversity and innovation. It combines America’s music, the music of African Americans – jazz, with classical music’s most elite large ensemble – the symphony orchestra. The UofL Symphony Orchestra and the African American Heritage Music Institute is honored to perform with Orbert Davis, who is a leader among jazz musicians in bringing these two worlds together.
This performance and the investment in it, puts the University of Louisville School of Music on the map and in the spotlight. The ripple of effects of this performance will impact recruiting, student retention and places in the distinct position as UofL as a destination school for years to come – well worth the investment.
